Freckles' Friends

May 2004 Events

Asheville, North Carolina
Tuesday, May 4:  Trish and Paul traveled to
Evergreen Charter School in Asheville and had a
grand time speaking to the kids in granddaughter
Rayna's school.  We didn't bring Freckles with us
on the plane but we made a new Freckles Friend!
Linda Morgan brought her pet therapy dog Pawly
(great name!).  She volunteers through Paws With
A Purpose there in Asheville.

buford, georgia school
Thursday, May 6:  We then travelled to this Atlanta
suburb to speak to the students (including two more
granddaughters, Kayla and Marissa) at Sugar Hill
Elementary.

This is Marissa's class (she's the one sitting with me).

And this is Kayla's class (she's sitting to my right).
We took a "serious" picture but the kids wanted this
one taken, too.  I like this one best!

buford, georgia "career day"
Friday, May 7:  My son Phil and I shared a table at
Career Day at Lanier Middle School.  We had a great
time with the more than 1,000 7th graders who attended.

Donna Seebo Radio show
Monday, May 10:  Paul was interviewed on The Donna
Seebo Show
which aired in the Seattle/Tacoma,
WA area.

phoenix advantage charter
Tuesday, May 11:  Freckles and Paul teamed up again,
this time speaking to nearly several different grades at
at this Phoenix AZ charter school.  We had a fun time.

Indian bend elementary
Thursday, May 13:  Freckles and Paul spoke to  more
than 1,500 students K-6 at this north Phoenix elementary
school.  We had a fantastic time (even with the half-hour
lockdown!).

Kyrene de la mariposa
Friday, May 14:  A return appearance!  Freckles and
Paul were asked back to this elementary school, this
time to speak to the 4th and 5th grade students. We were
there last December and spoke then to the kids K-3rd
grade.  Neat kids!  Great teachers and librarians!

sheriff joe fundraiser
Saturday, May 15:  Freckles and Paul were among the
featured speakers at a fundraiser for Joe Arpaio, sheriff
of Maricopa County Arizona.  It was to Sheriff Joe's jail,
of course, that Freckles and her puppies were taken after
being rescued in the desert. The event was attended by
a lot of the Sheriff's friends here in the animal community.
Pictured below with the Sheriff and Freckles and Paul is
Eileen Proctor, owner of It's a Ruff Life Doggy Daycare
Center where the event was held.

Gilbert elementary
Monday, May 24:  In a series of talks set up at the last
minute (thanks, Stacey Phelan for your help!), Paul and
Freckles had the wonderful opportunity to speak to several
hundred students in Gilbert AZ.  This school is so cool!
And school librarian Kelly Morgan and her assistant Angie
were so wonderfully enthusiastic. (Angie, on the left, and
Kelly are shown here with Paul and Freckles):

rainbow elementary
Wednesday, May 26:  In what was the last talk of the
current school year, Paul and Freckles drove up to this
great elementary school in Buckeye AZ and were greeted
by this sign!  What a wonderful group of kids we had in each
of the three talks!
