Bookexpo America
Friday thru Sunday, June 4-6: Trish and
Paul went
to Chicago IL for BookExpo America and were among
the 4,000 exhibitors at this important book show.
Authors and publishers from around the world join
together each year to celebrate and promote the
wonderful business of books. Freckles illustrator
Judy Mehn Zabriskie and her husband Rick joined us
on Saturday so she could see how her artwork was
being so enthusiastically and warmly received by the
BookExpo crowds. Here, Paul and Judy work the
booth.
You never know who you're going to meet at
BookExpo.
We ran into people ranging from Julie Andrews
to a real,
live Barbie Doll. Here is Barbie with some girl dressed
in pink.

We were delighted to have participated in two booths
at
the
show--Arizona Book Publishers Association and
our
wonderful trade distributor, Midpoint Trade Books.
Paul
was invited to do an impromptu signing at the
Midpoint
booth on Sunday and as soon as he arrived with
copies
of Freckles, a long line of eager people formed
and we
ran out of books shortly after we started!.

Thank you, Cap'n Ron!

Sunday thru Tuesday, June 27-29: Paul, Trish
& Judy (and
Freckles!) attended the American Library Association's
annual
conference in Orlando FL. We were the invited guests
at an ASPCA-sponsored tea and
award ceremony where we
received the ASPCA Henry Bergh
Children Book Award for
Humane Education. That we knew about. The BIG surprise
was that they awarded to Freckles the first-ever ASPCA
Humane Hero Award. Freckles is the ASPCA's Humane Hero
of 2004! Paul also did a book signing at the ASPCA booth.
Freckles made hundreds of new fans among the people there
from all over the world.

ASPCA Officer Annemarie Lucas (of Animal
Planet "Animal
Precinct" fame) awards Freckles the ASPCA Humane Hero
of 2004 Award.

Annemarie brought her new puppy Phoebe and
Freckles is
checking her out. :-)

helped the book to win.
