PAINTED SKY'S
AUTHOR NIGHT
Monday, November 17:
Paul was honored to be invited
to Oro Valley, Arizona, to participate in Painted Sky
Elementary School's annual Author's Night & Book Fair.
Paul went on whirlwind visit in the afternoon, talking to
the kids in five classrooms in just over two hours! He
somehow managed to find time to tell them
about
Freckles' story, about the artist who did the
drawings, and what it's like to write and publish a book.
That evening, Paul and several
other authors (including
Conrad Storad, Freckles' editor) had tables in the
school library where the students and their parents
could get books autographed. Freckles couldn't make
this trip, so Paul used a rubber stamp of her pawprint to
"pawtograph" the books for her.
Paul also received several
letters from the kids he
visited during the day. Here are a few samples (click on

BARRY GOLDWATER HIGH SCHOOL
Tuesday, November 18:
Freckles and Paul had a chance
to speak to the members of the Humane Education Club
(HEC) at Barry Goldwater High School in Phoenix. With the
guidance and encouragement of advisor Ms. Georgia Benyk,
these young adults have already become responsible and
caring stewards of the planet and its creatures.
This was a return engagement for Freckles and
Paul, as they
had spoken to the HEC members just a little over a year ago.
The club is even bigger and more active than before. Great work!
BOW-WOW!
Thursday, November 20: Trish, Freckles, and Paul attended the
reception recognizing the grand reopening of the Arizona Museum
for Youth in Mesa, Arizona. The event kicked off a six-month-long
exhibit museum of hands-on art exhibits featuring our canine pals.
Freckles was the only dog invited to this prestigious occasion and
she made hundreds of new friends, from seniors to juniors to toddlers.
In February and March 2004, Paul and Freckles will return to the
museum to talk about her story and about her job as a pet therapy
dog and about why it's important to be nice to animals.
